The water remains significantly lower than normal, but silver salmon are pouring into the river in large numbers and fishing is excellent — expect the next couple of weeks to provide equally excellent fishing. We are currently fishing artificial lures. Bait fishing is scheduled to open on August 6 through September 30.
If you would like to join us on a guided silver salmon trip give us a call at (907) 376-3687 as we have space available right now for fishing with lures and additional space available during bait season.

David saw lots of fish, but the teenager fishing with him got discouraged after hooking but losing several fish and wanted to head in halfway through the trip. Sometimes it takes extra patience and persistence to produce limit catches.

Today was the openning day of bait fishing for salmon on Little Susitna River and there were lots of people out fishing bait and catching salmon. I would expect Saturday and Sunday to be the busiest silver salmon fishing weekend of the season, but also expect a lot of silver salmon will be caught. Also expect excellent fishing during this following week as the weekend crowds will dissapate during the week. Give us a call at 907-376-3687 if you`d like to go on a silver salmon catching trip.

Little Susitna River — I guided a morning group of 4 guests who caught limits of silver salmon on salmon eggs and an ESB bobber. The water is so low in some holes and the salmon are so jittery that they often do not even pull the bobber under when munching on the salmon eggs, so it has been paying off to set the hook a bit earlier than we normally would when fishing the bobber and bait.

Most of the salmon were caught either on #3 black Flashtrap Spinners or salmon eggs drifted under an ESB bobber. Even though it is the weekend we started the trip a bit later at 7 a.m. this morning with the thought that we`d catch plenty of fish whether we started early or later in the day. That is exactly what happened and we ended up with another batch of beautiful silver salmon.
If you`d like to join us in the next week or two on a fun silver salmon harvesting trip, give us a call at 907-376-3687. Lately the fishing has been excellent, and we expect it to remain that way for a while.

The river remains low and clear, and each group saw plenty of silver salmon in the river where we were fishing. Sometimes we have to fish a little longer than other trips for everyone to catch a limit, but it is only a matter of time before everyone catches a limit under the current conditions.

River extremely low and clear and we often get immediate strikes when fishing a new hole, then after the fish get stirred up we have to work at coaxing additional strikes. I`m still expecting another couple weeks of good silver salmon fishing on the Little Susitna River.

08/28/2004
Little Susitna River — I fished with 2 guests and we each limited on silver salmon. The river has risen with the past couple days of rain, but fishing remained good. Little Susitna River — I fished with 2 guests and we each caught a limit of silver salmon. 3 silvers were caught drifting salmon eggs along the bottom, and the rest were caught casting #4 and #5 silver Flashtrap Spinners. The river indeed came up since yesterday, and we had to fish harder to get bites today, but the USGS water chart for Little Susitna River shows the water has been dropping on the upper end of the river, so I expect the water will be dropping in the lower river again by tomorrow.
08/30/2004

08/31/2004
Little Susitna River — Greg Acord guided a group of five guests who limited on silver salmon — most of which were caught on Flashtrap Spinners. The river is still higher than it was before our big rains last week, but it has dropped and cleared considerably in the past couple days, and Greg reports that he could once again see fish in the water in some holes, while salmon in deeper and darker holes where still difficult to see. Water should be even lower tomorrow.
Over 20,000 silver have already swam past the Little Susitna River weir above the Parks Highway Bridge, so an excellent spawning escapement has already been achieved while a solid portion of the return is still down below the bridge in the area open for salmon fishing.
