September Salmon Catching Opportunities

While our guest still catch some ocean-fresh chrome coho salmon primarily in early September, there is a much greater abundance of rosy-hued coho salmon migrating up Mat-Su Valley streams as daily temperatures start to cool.  Bait fishing is still allowed on a portion of the Knik River drainages during September.   September provides an opportunity to fish with low fishing pressure from other angler.

September 1 – 10

September 1 — 7 The most prime ocean-chrome coho salmon are usually available right at the start of September.   Give us a call at 907-746-2199 if you would like to discuss a September salmon fishing trip.

September Alaska Fishing Reports 2023

September 1, 2023 — I had hoped to be posting daily fishing reports through all of August and into September — however with the Alaska Department of Fish & Game issuing emergency restrictions and/ or closures on all the major fisheries for wild coho salmon in the Mat-Su Valley I have not guided a salmon fishing trip since August 18.

September 2, 2023 — Eklutna Tailrace — I drove over to the tailrace this afternoon and caught a chrome bright coho salmon while casting with a #4 Vibrax Spinner.  There were about 7 of os fishing and I only saw one other angler have any luck while I was fishing.  3 additional anglers had fish coho salmon they had caught before I arrived.  The Knik River was very high and muddy, and the tailrace itself was backed up and quite high, but had decent clarity.
